With Dan Atherton working on his dislocated shoulder back home Martin goes it alone in Colorado!
There is big media expectation for the youngster, especially in light of his 2nd place overall at last weekend’s Mountain of Hell but Team Director Dan Brown says “ We’re very keen that Martin doesn’t put himself under any undue pressure. We just want him to enjoy his riding. What we all have to remember is that Martin is only 16 year old. He’ll miss having Dan alongside but mechanic Matteo and dad Patric (himself 23 times a Belgian National Champion will be there to guide and help him along.”
Riders: Martin Maes
Mechanics: Matteo Nati
Bikes: GT Force
The Stages are raced over three days starting on Friday (Stage 1 and 2) Saturday has Stage 3 and 4 (raced immediately back to back) and Sunday has Stage 5 so there’ll be more chance for rest and recovery between.
Matteo had this to report about Yesterday’s practise session “Today Martin rode the trails for the first time, flowy and nice trails…soo dusty but still good grip.”
Warm (highs of between 22 and 24 degrees C) with Thunderstorms forecast for today (Thursday) then 3 days of rain…
First time for Martin in the United States but he’s having a great series so far – 1st Junior at Round 1 and Round 2, 2nd at Les deux Alpes…
Current situation – team perspectives
Martin said “ I was a bit nervous coming to the USA for the first time – they have great cars though! I’m also sad for Dan and disappointed that he is not here with his wise advice but I can lean on Patric my dad, and I have great respect for Matteo as well as we have a lot of fun so I’m looking forward to a great trip.
