Gee, Rachel, Taylor and Marc are already at Crankworx in Les Deux Alpes where big brother Dan Atherton and team mate Martin Maes both podiumed this weekend to start the Festival with a bang for the GT Factory Racing Team.

Last year was the first ever Giant Air DH at Crankworx and Gee and Rachel smashed their way to double victory on a course jointly designed by Marc Beaumont who came in 4th.

Race guide:

This year’s race will be shorter but still runs on the steep and technical  “Fury” track designed by Mick Hannah and Marc Beaumont that was used in 2012. Last year many riders praised the challenging nature of the track while Rachel confessed to nerves at some of the big jumps but come race day she put in a solid ride to arrive 15 seconds clear of the field.

Weather forecast
The warm spell looks set to continue with thunderstorms threatening Tuesday’s practice and rain showers showing for Wednesday afternoon’s Finals.

History

The team comes into this event in great form and in great spirits. Gee and Rachel have won here before, Marc narrowly missed top three and will be looking to fix that this time round. He’s in great form too as evidenced by his recent showing at BDS Round 4 in Llangollen – a similarly steep and technical track where only Gee could get down the hill faster. Taylor Vernon has never raced here before but will also relish this type of challenge.Current Perspectives

Gee: We’re having an amazing time here, and we’ve got Athy’s tough showing at the weekend to live up to! The course here is fast and kind of gnarly but it’s also part of a great event with a brilliant atmosphere so we’re going to enjoy it.”

Rachel: Last year was so gnarly with these massive jumps, one of the hardest I rode all year, I was worried they were going to make it harder still!”

Marc: Last year Crankworx Europe was one of my favourite events and it’s looking good so far this year! I’ll be running Continental Mud Kings front and rear, I need all the help I can get for braking on this steep and gnarly course.

Taylor: “First day of practise has been sick! Track is so super fun, I can’t wait to ride it again tomorrow.”
